. Hydrogeologic & Contamination
Investigations A
thorough, accurate characterization of the
hydrogeology and soil and groundwater
contamination is critical for a realistic risk
assessment and an effective remediation design.
Knowing what we need to accomplish these things
- an understanding of your objectives, knowledge
of environmental regulations, an accurate
conceptual model of the physical and chemical
characteristics of the subsurface environment,
and an understanding of how contaminants behave
in that environment - is just as
important. Typical
elements of hydrogeologic and contamination
investigations include: AVANT
conducts dozens of hydrogeologic and
contamination assessments each year for
manufacturers and steel mills; real estate
companies; electric utilities; law firms;
investment, trucking, construction, and
waste-management companies; agribusinesses;
municipalities; and architectural and
engineering firms. These investigations are
related to chemical releases, underground
storage tanks, unregulated disposal practices,
material storage, solid- and hazardous-waste
disposal sites, municipal facilities, and
property acquisitions of all types. The types of
contaminants we've investigated include
petroleum hydrocarbons, manufactured-gas
components, toxic metals, fertilizer
constituents, chlorinated and aromatic solvents,
PCBs, and pesticides and herbicides. Other
